A pass steeped in history with splendid views

The rich and sometimes violent history associated with Robbers Pass in Mpumalanga takes us back to the pioneering days of the gold prospectors – of stagecoaches, highwaymen, robberies, drunken brawls, murders and mayhem. Trygve Roberts of Mountain Passes South Africa explores.

Ticking all the right boxes: Isuzu MU-X

The second generation of Isuzu’s seven-seater mu-X was launched in South Africa towards the end of 2021, boasting bold new styling, a larger and quieter cabin, luxurious materials, and a host of driver assistance and safety features. Having driven it recently, Anton Willemse Snr believes it to be a great vehicle for families with an active lifestyle.

Reach for the skies

Lesotho did not gain the name “the mountain kingdom” for nothing. Nearly two-thirds of the country consists of mountains with peaks ranging from 2 200 to 3 000 metres high. That means passes galore. Trygve Roberts of Mountain Passes South Africa explores one of his favourites, the Moteng Pass.

Regular readers will by now be familiar with Bush Run and the antics of the enthusiastic guys and girls who form part of this group of Land Rover fanatics.
