Try before you buy

Are you considering buying a Land Rover but not sure if it’s the right vehicle for you? Then you’ll be glad to hear that Jaguar Land Rover Experience in Johannesburg now offers so-called Taster Drives, giving potential customers more in-depth test drives than are possible in dealership environments. Each Taster Drive includes an introduction to the Experience facility, a short vehicle safety briefing and the drive experience itself – all totalling around 90 minutes.

The new Taster Drives are offered alongside the Experience centre’s half-day, full-day or bespoke luxury travel driving
experiences which are available in a wide range of current models, including the new Defender and Range Rover. Taster
Drives start at R1 520 per person and are hosted by Jaguar Land Rover’s globally accredited instructors.

Jaguar Land Rover Experience is the first Experience centre in the southern hemisphere and the largest in the world. It
offers visitors the opportunity to get behind the wheel of current Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles on a variety of test
tracks. The property is also home to the Kingsley Holgate Expedition Trail – 3km of off-road tracks named after the
long-time friend and global ambassador of the Land Rover brand. There’s also a Land Rover Adventure Park adjacent
to the main building where a series of tailor-made obstacles are designed to put vehicles to the test in a controlled but
challenging environment

Difficult, but worth it!

Located within the boundaries of the Marakele National Park near Thabazimbi, one should not be fooled by the tarred nature of the Lenong Pass. This is quite a challenging pass on a narrow road that clings precariously to the side of the mountain with extreme unprotected drop-offs and, according to TRYGVE ROBERTS of Mountain Passes South Africa, it is certainly not for anyone suffering from acrophobia (fear of heights).

Like a Bat out of hell

Meat Loaf’s 1977 hit song could just as well have been written about the new Ford Ranger Raptor. ANTON WILLEMSE SNR insists that this is probably the craziest and most fun vehicle he has ever driven, and that it might be a while before we see anything similar on the roads.

“Well, I can see myself tearing up the road, faster than any other boy has ever gone.”
– Meat Loaf, Bat out of Hell
