Letaba – Always a Winner!

As the year draws to a close, the annual prizegiving ceremonies in the movie industry. We always try to guess which camps in the Kruger

You’ve been warned!

In Issue 25 we met JAN-HARM DU PLESSIS and his family as they shared their epic adventure retracing the route of the Dorslandtrekkers of the 1800s through Namibia. This was not a once-off adventure, though, and the four of them love nothing more than to explore the natural wonders of the African continent. They also have a weird fascination with road signs.

For the love of overlanding

LA Sport 4WD Megastores Pretoriais one of South Africa’s oldest and most well-known fitment centres and has always had a true passion for their customers and the industry. So, to celebrate this commitment, LA Sport Pretoria hosts an annual weekend getaway for off-road enthusiasts and overlanders. ANTON WILLEMSE JNR joined the fun.

The heartbeat of the Kruger

Growing up, one of Natasha Schutte’s most treasured memories and privileges was camping with her grandparents every weekend. As such, she and her family have visited virtually all the camps in the Kruger National Park. One small camp, located in the central part of the park, holds a special place in their hearts.

Lose your heart in the red dunes

Since the completion of his beloved overlanding beast, #HiluxDevilBuild, Stuart Queripel has dreamt of undertaking a proper self-drive (and self-planned) overlanding adventure. The mere mention of wild camping, with the sound of roaring lions lulling you to sleep, was enough to convince his better half, Oksana, to venture out to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park during their annual leave.

A pass to a forgotten world

While only four-wheel drive vehicles with good ground clearance will cope with the harsh conditions of the Richtersveld, this dramatic mountainous desert in the north-western part of South Africa is on many adventurers‘ bucket lists. And with good reason – it is absolutely stunning. It also plays host to seven official passes and poorts, ranging in difficulty. Trygve Roberts of Mountain Passes South Africa explores one of the two most challenging passes, Akkedis Pass.

Fortune favours the prepared

Conquering the Namakwa Eco Trail – which is basically right on his back door – has always been on Shaun Hutton’s bucket. He and a group of friends eventually managed to set a date, book and go!

The great escape

Each December, when all the other ‘Vaalies’ head to the coast, Liana Reiners and her family head for the hills of Mpumalanga to enjoy four of their favourite pastimes: relaxing, fishing, sightseeing and catching up with old friends. There’s usually also a lot of eating involved. For such a trip a great vehicle is a must, and the Hyundai Creta fits the bill perfectly.
