We’ve been waiting with bated breath for the media launch of the highly anticipated Land Cruiser Prado… and while there’s still no word on when exactly this will happen, the good news is that it is now officially on sale in South Africa.
More than 70 years on from the launch of the original Toyota BJ, the all-new Land Cruiser Prado is returning to its origins. There is a clear focus on its core quality as a vehicle you can trust to take you anywhere and bring you home again, even in the toughest conditions.
The new Prado is available as a five- or seven-seater and is powered by a 150kW 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine matched to a new eight-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission, giving it the power to pull loads up to 3 500kg. There are three models to choose from, all featuring major improvements to driveability, technology and design.
The TX variant sets a solid specification foundation, featuring a fully leather-upholstered cabin, driver and passenger seat heating, heated steering wheel, heads-up display and a wireless charging station. The next step up is the VX-R, which adds a host of features – including a digital rear-view mirror and a larger infotainment screen to the mix. The First Edition is the pinnacle of the all-new Land Cruiser line-up, available only in limited numbers and for a limited period. It is easily distinguishable from its lesser siblings, courtesy of the classic round headlamps versus the rectangular shape found in the other models.
