A real class act

With the introduction of the previous generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLC, it quickly became a global leader within its segment in terms of styling, luxury and capability. ANTON WILLEMSE JNR heads to Cape Town for a spin in the second generation and reports that the German brand is on track to remain ahead of the pack.

For the love of the brand

One life, live it. For many people, that saying is part their culture. For them, every trip, big or small, is an adventure. They are the living embodiment of the adventure lifestyle, and their beloved brand is the poster child for all things overlanding. Once a year, they all gather to celebrate all things Land Rover at the LandyFest. ANTON WILLEMSE JNR joined in the fun… and almost became the proud owner of a Landy in the process!

A gem amongst Mountains of gold

Upon first inspection, the Lydenburg (Mashishing) area doesn’t seem like an overly attractive destination for a weekend getaway. It serves as more of a stopover on the way to the Kruger and is regularly outshined by its sister town, Dullstroom. However, nestled in between the goldfields of the Steenkampsberg and Mauchsberg mountain ranges is a true gem – the Nooitgedacht Trout Lodge & Hatchery. ANTON WILLEMSE JNR reveals more.

Forcing away the Vibration

Tyre care is one of the most important parts of maintaining a vehicle. One of the first parts of tyre maintenance is wheel balancing. However, traditional wheel balancing has its limits, especially with off-road tyres. Fortunately, this issue can be avoided thanks to a new balancing method called Hunter Roadforce®, as ANTON WILLEMSE JNR discovers.

Certainly no-one-trick pony: Ford Ranger Super- and Single-Cab Review

December 2022 saw Ford unveiling the long-awaited next-generation Ranger double cab, with immediate acclaim from critics and consumers alike. Now Ford is looking to take a big step in a market sector where it has historically fallen short, with the introduction of the Ranger single and super cab line-up. ANTON WILLEMSE JNR explains why this is his favourite segment of bakkies.

Adding oomph to your ride

There are many misconceptions about vehicle mapping or, to use the more common term, chipping. So, we headed to Dastek in Pretoria to learn more about the popular Unichip solution for those owners wanting to add a tad more oomph to their rides. Anton Willemse Jnr reports.

Ain’t no Mountain high enough…

Back in the 1940s, during World War II, General Patton declared that the USA’s single biggest contribution to the war effort was the introduction of the Willys Overland. Many still regard it as the first-ever off-roader, able to get you wherever you want to go… come hell or high water. That is precisely the mission of the DVR Xtreme 4×4 Rowwe Blixem off-road trip. The goal is simply to find an obscure destination and follow the most challenging route to get there. Anton Willemse Jnr went along for the rather rough ride.

In your face: New Models Ford Ranger

The beginning of December marked the launch of the highly anticipated next-gen Ford Ranger. Even during the run-up to the event, it was clear that this was not going to be just a facelift, but a new product to revolutionise the market. Anton Willemse Jnr had the opportunity to see if it had achieved that daunting goal.

With a heart like a lion

Peter Aigner has been bitten by the Africa bug. However, being a German living in Munich, means that there’s a fair bit of water and land between him and the wide-open plains of southern Africa. However, in 2013 he took the leap to heed the call of adventure. He started exploring our beautiful country in standard rental cars, but very soon he was called to the bush and ascended into the realm of African overlanding.
