Widely regarded as the world’s first cross over SUV and it filled all the brackets a cross over should which the fact that it was a sporty utilitarian family vehicle. The new 2021 version of this fantastic vehicle promises to respect and improve that 23-year-old legacy.
Set for local launch in March 2021 the new model will extend the line up if the addition of two new variants, headlining these new variants is the new Subaru Forester 2.5i Sport ES which will be powered by the all-new 2.5-litre boxer engine. The new engine is a 2.5-litre direct-injected SUBARU BOXER with the Lineartronic CVT and start/stop system. According to Subaru, the new engine will remain as efficient and economical as its lower-powered counterpart.
This new motor delivers 136kW which is 21kW more than the base 2.0 litre. It also boasts a maximum torque of 239Nm, which is 43Nm more than the base. The new engine is not the only aspect of the Sport ES which stands out from the other variants, it also has a few distinct design ques to give it a sportier look and feel. According to Subaru South Africa, this allows the customer to have a personalized vehicle which can accommodate more of your personal needs.
The new forester will also be available with its class-leading safety features such as the award-winning EyeSight Driver Sight System such as other basic safety option we have come to expect in newer cars namely: camera-based detection technology and integrates Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Pre-Collision Braking, Lane Departure, Sway warning and lane keep assist. Blindspot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are all standard features on the new Sport ES models as well a smart High Beam Assist, which automatically switches the headlights between low and high beams. This technology is also coupled with steering Responsive Headlights that turn in conjunction with the steering angle. It also has Reverse Automatic Braking which is also included on EyeSight models.
The entire 2021 Subaru Forester line-up will be available with Subaru’s signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive that works similar to most AWD systems in its class which utilizes a centre diff to transfer power and torque to the wheel with the most traction. Subaru Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) is also available to assist a driver in all weathers as well as all surface stability control, traction control technology such as ABS, EBD, ESP and Torque Vectoring. Subaru also provides their very own off-road system for more challenging terrain named the X-Mode system this mode enhances Forester’s off-road capability by managing all the car’s internals such as the engine, transmission and the AWD systems the VDC system will also optimize the car’s performance on challenging and slippery terrain. The vehicle also uses a Hill Descent Control.
