More details on the Toyota Land Cruiser 300

Sources out of Japan have suggested that the next-generation Land Cruiser will be launching in September 2021. This will usher in a new era in the off-roaders legacy, and one headlined by a new TNGA platform as well as new engine options.

We know that the automaker has ditched the V8 options and replaced them with six-cylinder units. One of the engines is said to be a 3.5-litre turbo-petrol but it is not confirmed if this will come to South Africa. Another engine to have been reported is that of a Hybrid unit. The new hybrid system will apparently utilise a 10-speed automatic gearbox, rather than a CVT. However the hybrid is still two years away according to our Japanese sources, and that’s for the international market, it might not even come here. Only time will tell.

However, we South Africans still enjoy powerful and sporty offerings and we have word that the next LC300 will be offered in GR Sport guise. This will mostly be visual enhancements as well as handling, with no confirmation on a power boost as of yet.

Reports in Australia suggest that a six-cylinder diesel will be making its way there and we can probably expect the same here. We are however not sure when this will be but we will keep you informed.
