The Unstoppable 70 Series Just Got Better: Standard Service Plans Now Included Across the Range

Toyota South Africa has announced a significant update to the legendary Land Cruiser 70 Series, and for the first time, ownership of this iconic workhorse is backed by a standard service plan across the entire range. This enhancement brings a new layer of value and predictability to a line-up famous for its “built-to-last” reputation.

Maintenance Built-In

The standout news for 2026 is the inclusion of a standard service plan for all 70 Series derivatives. For an overlander or a farmer operating in remote, demanding environments, this move ensures that the cost of keeping these machines in peak condition is far more predictable.

The plan covers up to 9 services or 90,000 km for most models. However, in a nod to the specific needs of the 4.2-litre diesel variants, these models benefit from 18 services over 90,000 km to accommodate their shorter service intervals. Every new 70 Series also remains backed by Toyota’s 3-year / 100,000 km warranty.

Shifting Gear: The End of the V8

As Toyota aligns with global shifts toward more efficient engine technology, the 4.5-litre V8 diesel has officially been discontinued in the pick-up models. Taking its place as the heavy-hitter is the proven 2.8-litre GD turbo-diesel.

This 2.8 GD engine is gaining traction for its balance of refinement and torque, delivering 150 kW and up to 500 Nm in the automatic versions (450 Nm for the manual). To further bolster the range, Toyota has introduced the Land Cruiser 79 2.8 GD Double Cab with a manual transmission, offering the specific control many off-roaders still prefer.

A Model for Every Adventure

The 70 Series continues to serve the South African market through three distinct body styles:

  • Single Cab: The ultimate heavy-duty tool for commercial and fleet use.
  • Double Cab: The versatile choice for those balancing workhorse duties with family adventures.
  • Station Wagon (76 and 78): The rugged SUV of choice for serious long-distance overlanding.

The updated range ensures the 70 Series remains the benchmark for durability, now with the added benefit of fixed maintenance costs.
