An affordable alternative for the everyday overlander

In the past 10 years, Mahindra evolved from a fairly unknown brand with very little street cred to a serious player in the automotive industry, and in particular, the off-roading and overlanding segment. This is mostly thanks to their rugged though as nails “halo” cars – the SUV/Bakkie duo: Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra Pick Up. These vehicles are both rugged and utilitarian off-roaders, and as such, a solid, more affordable option for overlander and off-road enthusiasts.

Mahindra now expands on its Scorpio Line-up, offering an upgraded version of the most recent S11 named the Mahindra Scorpio S11 Adventure. As the name suggests, this limited edition is tailor-made for adventurers and overlanders.

The powertrain & gearbox

Since it’s based on the newer S11 model, the Adventure edition comes with the new engine and transmission. It features the popular 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox which sends power to all four wheels. This combination can deliver up to 103kW of power and 320Nm of torque.

Price and service plan.

Mahindra is known for its affordability in the Off-road SUV segment. The Adventure is no different. It has a starting price of R416 999 and is available at dealers across South Africa. All models are sold with a 5-year/90 00km service plan and a 4-year/120 000km comprehensive warranty to ensure peace of mind when you’re out on adventure.

What makes it special?

Unlike most “Special edition” vehicles, the Mahindra isn’t just the same car with a sticker pack. It comes off the showroom floor with a variety of upgrades. the most prominent one being the replacement front bumper. This upgrade isn’t only aesthetic since this bumper is winch compatible and has high-lift points with recovery points. Secondly, the Mahindra has upgraded tyres with 245/65 R17 all-terrain tyres instead of the standard 235/65 R17 highway terrains. These takkies not only add better traction both on- and off-road, but it also improves the vehicle overall ground clearance.

The Mahinda Adventure edition’s upgrades enhance this vehicle’s off-roading capability and overall presence on the road. We look forward to giving it a go in the bundu sometime.
