Add Dakar flair to your Hilux

Dakar Rally legend Giniel de Villiers has teamed up with 4×4 Mega World to create three custom packages set to make South Africa’s top-selling bakkie more distinct and, in the case of the top-spec offering, more capable.

The decal-only entry-level package will set you back R7 600, with the pricier next tier adding a stainless-steel nudge bar, roll bar, ARB Intensity lights as well as Takla seat covers emblazoned with the GDV Racing logo.

The sweet spot for serious off-roaders lies in the Tier 3 option which includes an Old Man Emu BP51 adjustable suspension system, which also raises the vehicle by 50mm. The dampers can be specifically configured for off-road driving and offer exceptional performance in sandy terrain. A set of 17-inch ‘Dirty Life’ alloy wheels shod with 165/70 R17 Cooper S/T Maxx tyres completes this package. With this options, buyers will also receive a pair of GDV Racing branded Oakley sunglasses and a GDV Racing cap, signed by De Villiers.

“The idea with the GDV Racing Toyota Hilux is to offer enthusiasts the opportunity to live their passion,” says Giniel. “To my eyes, the bakkie is clearly non-standard, but it doesn’t feature any custom bodywork. This gives the car a stylish yet rugged appearance, and, together with the changes under the skin, will set this vehicle apart from the regular Hilux.”

The GDV Racing kits can be fitted to either new double cabs or to vehicles that have been on the road some time. The kits are available through selected branches of 4×4 Mega World, and prospective buyers can make direct contact with any of the 19 branches in southern Africa.

*Tier 2 is priced from R61 099 and Tier 3 starts at R171 257. However, 4×4 Mega World warns that these prices could change as a result of currency fluctuations. For more information: www.4x4megaworldonline.com
