Suzuki Jimny 5-Door to tackle 2025 Simola Hillclimb

The 2025 Simola Hillclimb, South Africa’s premier motorsport lifestyle event, is set to take place from 1-4 May in Knysna, marking its 15th edition. Among the anticipated entries, Suzuki Auto South Africa is preparing to showcase its versatile lineup, including the popular Jimny 5-door model. This marks a significant moment for off-road enthusiasts, as the Jimny, traditionally known for its rugged terrain capabilities, steps into the high-octane world of hillclimb racing.

The Jimny 5-door’s participation highlights Suzuki’s commitment to demonstrating the adaptability and performance of its vehicles across various driving conditions. While the Simola Hillclimb is renowned for its challenging 1.9km course that tests the limits of speed and handling, the inclusion of the Jimny offers a fresh perspective, bridging the gap between off-road prowess and motorsport agility.

Suzuki has made a notable impact at Simola in the past. In 2024, the brand dominated Class A1 for turbocharged production vehicles, with the Swift Sport setting a new record time. Drivers such as Thomas Falkiner showcased the Swift Sport’s capabilities, achieving impressive lap times and demonstrating the vehicle’s competitive edge in the hillclimb arena.

This year, the Suzuki camp will again be buzzing with energy as motoring scribe Sean Nurse will be behind the wheel of the Jimny 5-door, bringing a bit of playful grit to the party. Sean Nurse had this to say about the unique challenge: The Jimny isn’t a traditional hillclimb car, but it’s going to be a lot of fun. We’re doing this to showcase the versatility of the platform and to put a big smile on people’s faces – mine included!”

The 2025 event promises to be a celebration of automotive diversity, with Suzuki’s lineup reflecting this ethos. Alongside the Jimny 5-door and Swift Sport, the brand is expected to feature other models from its stable, while Suzuki’s motorcycle division is also anticipated to participate, offering demonstration runs that highlight the brand’s two-wheeled engineering excellence.

For attendees and motorsport fans, the Simola Hillclimb offers more than just racing. The event is a comprehensive experience, featuring various attractions such as the Fan Fest, street parades, and opportunities to engage with drivers and vehicles up close. Suzuki’s presence, especially with the Jimny 5-door, adds a unique dimension to the event, appealing to both traditional motorsport enthusiasts and fans of off-road adventures.
