The first 60 km from Sesriem to the 2×4 car park is tarred. However, the final 5 km into the heart of Sossusvlei is deep sand. Only high-clearance 4x4s should attempt this; otherwise, use the NWR shuttle service from the 2×4 parking area.
3. What are the gate times?
There are two gates at Sesriem. The outer gate (for those staying outside the park) opens at sunrise and closes at sunset. The inner gate (for those staying at Sesriem Campsite or Sossus Dune Lodge) opens one hour before sunrise, allowing guests to reach the dunes for first light.
4. Can I see the “Big Five” here?
