The Ford Ranger is nearing the end of its current model life-cycle and reports suggest that the replacement is headed our way very soon. The Ford Ranger is one of South Africa’s most popular offerings. The new model which is said to hit showrooms early in 2022 looks to be quite the improvement. Here is what we know.
More power makes us happy
While the impressive 2.0-litre biturbo diesel offered on the fancier Ranger models might seem to be more than enough, there are some who feel that its displacement is lacking. Despite the Ranger producing more kilowatts than the Hilux, there are those who feel that only milk comes in 2.0-litres.
Credible reports suggest that the next generation Ranger will offer the above mentioned motor as well as a twin-turbo petrol V6. It is however the 185kW/600Nm 3.0-litre V6 diesel that we are interested in.
Those American eyes
Further reports suggest that the next Ranger will feature similar design elements to that offered by the American F-150. Renderings found online suggest that the new Ranger will feature the brands new range-wide front fascia with C-Shape headlights. The design seems to offer more eye-catching elements which we thing look great.
The Raptor
Ford is silent over the finer details of the next Raptor but we can only speculate as to what it will be like. One thing is for certain and that is the fact that the Raptor will remain a formidable off-road vehicle. What we do hope to see is the V6 turbodiesel engine which we suspect could be a trade-off with the Volkswagen partnership.
“There is a Raptor that we are working on. We do not comment on future product, but I would never want a product to be worse, or the same, as the last one,” Ford Performance program manager Justin Capicchiano told CarsGuide in the past.
