Mitsubishi South Africa is taking the Pajero Sport to the next level with the addition of a few Shogun touches. These are sure to appeal to off-road and 4×4 fans, as well as adventure-seekers and those with an active lifestyle.
Based on the Aspire 4×4 derivative, the all-new Pajero Sport Shogun Limited Edition is locally developed and falls in just below the Exceed derivative in the model line-up. Under the bonnet is a 2.4 litre MIVEC four-cylinder intercooled turbodiesel engine that develops 133kW and 430Nm and is coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
What differentiates the Shogun model?
The seven-seater Pajero Sport Shogun is differentiated from other models in the range by a variety of aesthetic enhancements as well as the fitment of additional equipment that will bolster its off-road ability.
The Pajero Sport features Mitsubishi’s so-called Dynamic Shield front grille, accentuated by strong yet flowing lines as well as rugged and durable finishes. The Shogun adds a black bonnet decal and badging to the package.
Aspire models on which the Shogun are based are only available in Jet Black or White Diamond, with a two-tone roof and feature black roof rails, a black front grille and 18-inch alloy wheels. On Shogun models these are wrapped with special all-terrain tyres measuring 265/60R18 and featuring white lettering.
Legendary off-road ability
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is fitted with a variety of additional equipment that adds to the aesthetic, protects the vehicle and enhances its capability, while adding a degree of exclusivity. Shogun specific equipment includes a black nudge bar, a snorkel, side window deflectors, fender flares and rock sliders.
Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II takes the guesswork out of off-road driving by ensuring that engine output, transmission settings and braking are optimised for superior traction across challenging surface conditions. Four selectable off-road modes include 2H, 4H, 4HLc (4WD high range with the centre diff locked), and 4LLc (4WD low range with the centre diff locked).
The Pajero Sport’s other noteworthy off-road credentials including an approach angle of 30 degrees, a departure angle of 24.2 degrees and a 23.1-degree break-over angle.
Premium interior
The interior of the Shogun boasts all the features found in the Aspire. This includes black leather seats, a power slide and reclining function for the driver’s seat, electric windows all round and dual-zone climate control with a rear ventilation duct for the second row of seats.
A multi-function leather steering wheels places audio and cruise controls settings at the driver’s fingertips and a full-colour digital instrument display ensures visibility of all relevant information. A large eight-inch touch screen is centrally mounted and facilitates Mitsubishi’s advanced smartphone-link display audio.
Safety first
The Pajero Sport smacks of Mitsubishi’s legendary off-road heritage, but it also boasts impressive safety credentials based around the Mitsubishi RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction. This includes seven airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, active stability and traction control, ABS brakes, EBD and an emergency brake assist system.
Completing the safety offering is hill-start assist, trailer stability assist, auto levelling dusk-sensing LED headlights, front foglamps, daytime running lights, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, rear park distance control and a rear-view camera for safer and easier parking.
