Hyundai and SA Rugby Announce Expanded Partnership: United by Rugby, Driven by Hyundai

Johannesburg, South Africa – In a significant announcement that excites both the automotive and rugby worlds, SA Rugby and Hyundai Automotive South Africa have officially expanded their historic four-year collaboration. The partnership now extends to include the iconic Springboks, Springbok Women, and Springbok Sevens men’s and women’s teams. This move builds upon Hyundai’s initial role as the official vehicle of South Africa’s junior national teams and Youth Week rugby tournaments, a relationship announced in April.

The expanded relationship firmly underlines the new partnership’s powerful theme: “United by Rugby. Driven by Hyundai”. This slogan encapsulates the shared values and ambitions of both entities.

Rian Oberholzer, CEO of SA Rugby, expressed his delight at the deepened collaboration. “We are delighted to confirm the expansion of the relationship with Hyundai Automotive South Africa to encompass the entire Springbok family and look forward to a mutually-beneficial and long journey ahead – on and off the field,” he stated. Oberholzer further highlighted the natural alignment between the brands, noting, “As a brand, Hyundai has earned a global reputation for building reliable, durable, and best-quality vehicles. Their brand philosophy aligns with our values”. He also emphasized the practical benefits, adding, “We are very grateful for Hyundai’s commitment to solving our transportation needs. We are always on the move and from now on, SA Rugby will be driven by Hyundai”.

Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the shared drive for excellence. “This powerful alliance brings together two iconic brands, each known for strength, excellence, innovation and reliability,” said Anderson. He added, “Whether on the road or on the rugby field, both Hyundai and the Springboks share a commitment to pushing boundaries and inspiring greatness”8. The partnership is a particularly fitting honor for Hyundai, with Anderson proudly stating, “It is therefore such a befitting honour for us to be an official vehicle partner of the reigning World Champions, having won the Rugby World Cup four times!”.

As the official vehicle partner, SA Rugby will gain access to a fleet of Hyundai’s award-winning, cutting-edge, and stylish vehicles. These vehicles are designed to efficiently, comfortably, and safely meet the organization’s diverse transport requirements, whether for players, staff, or equipment.

Fans can look forward to experiencing the synergy between world-class rugby and automotive excellence firsthand. The collaboration is set to kick off with joint stadium activations during the upcoming Castle Lager Incoming Series and the Castle Lager Rugby Championship.

The Springboks, renowned for their strong team spirit and collective effort crucial to their global success, represent more than just rugby. This expanded partnership with Hyundai is a testament to those shared values, promising a dynamic future for both the sport and the brand in South Africa.
